On the evening of Friday, February 3, 2023, high winds and frigid temperatures resulted in PVFD members handling eight incidents in twelve hours.

At around 5:20pm, PVFD was dispatched as mutual aid to assist Kent Fire Department with a brush fire on Peekskill Hollow Rd in Kent.

At 7:30pm, a tree brought down wires on to Peekskill Hollow Rd. between Marsh Hill Rd and the Post Office, snapping a utility pole and knocking out power to a significant portion of town. As of 8:30am Saturday, the road was still impassible.

At about 10pm, a tree fell across Oscawana Lake Rd. at Kramer’s Pond Rd. bringing wires down and snapping a utility pole across the roadway and into the dry brush, and sparking a small brush fire. Once the power was shut off to the wires, members doused the brush fire knocking it down (pictured below). As of 8:30am Saturday, OLR was still impassible.

As members were cleaning up on OLR, we were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on the Taconic State Parkway around 11:30pm.

As units responded from Station 2, a few minutes later, we were dispatched to an automatic fire alarm, sending members from Station 1 out to Lindsey Ln.

At 12:04am, we received a call to respond to a CO alarm activation in the area off Sunset Hill, where members ventilated the home that had CO gas entering from a generator outside the home.

Approximately 20 mins later, we were dispatched to an automatic fire alarm on Horton Hollow Rd.

At approximately 5:20am Saturday, members were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on the Taconic State Parkway.

Members braved the sub-zero overnight temperatures through each of these incidents, and all apparatus was eventually put back in service.
