January 30, 2023

Charles W. Milo was born Oct. 3, 1940 in Peekskill, NY, to the late Joseph and Muriel (Rosenbaum) Milo, the second of four children. A life-long resident of Putnam Valley, Charlie attended Carmel schools.
A former member of the local Laborers’ union, Charlie was also employed by the Putnam Valley Highway Department and Putnam Valley Town Hall. In later years Charlie was self-employed as owner-operator of On-Time Services, a local moving company. Charlie worked hard all of his life; anyone who knew Charlie knew that he was always busy working at something.
Charlie dedicated much of his life to volunteer service. An active member of the Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department for 63 years, Charlie served as Fire Police Captain, helped arrange many events over the years. In 2009, having achieved 50 years of active service in the Fire Department, Charlie was made an Honorary Chief. In addition to the Fire Department, Charlie was a 62-year Life Active member (and last surviving Charter Member) of the Putnam Valley Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and served as both a lieutenant and board member.
In 2012, Charlie began volunteering with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), aka Putnam Senior Corps, and would pick up donated food for distribution through the Putnam Valley Community Food Pantry. This past October, Charlie was honored as Putnam County’s 2022 recipient of New York State’s Office for the Aging’s “Outstanding Volunteer” award.
Charlie found great pleasure in the outdoors and was an avid hunter, taking several trips to the Western United States to hunt big game accompanied by his life-long friend John Carelli, brother John, brother-in-law Warren and nephew Michael.
An antique car enthusiast, Charlie was a member of the Road Knights Auto Club of Peekskill, NY, and owned several antique vehicles over the years, but his pride and joy was the 1936 Ford Pickup.
Charlie is survived by his son, Joseph Milo, of Myrtle Beach, SC; step-son Louis Luongo (Sheryl) of Putnam Valley; step-daughter Gina O’Connell (John) of New Fairfield, CT; sisters Josephine Smith (Warren) of Putnam Valley and Helen Bourdette of New Fairfield, CT; brother John Milo (Dorothea) of Putnam Valley; nieces Laura Eagens (Milton), Grace-Ann Buck (Robert) and Susan Kelly (Tim), nephew Michael Smith; five grandchildren (LouAnna, Nicholas, Mark, Keri and Amanda), one great grandson (Griffin), great-nieces and nephews (John, Stephanie, Paige, Cole, Emma and Jack), grand-nieces (Kaelin, Peyton and Reagan), his aunt Arlene Milo of Milford, CT and many cousins, as well as his beloved dog Sammy. He was pre-deceased by step-daughter Michelle Luongo.
