On Tuesday, October 11, 2002, firefighters visited the Putnam Valley Elementary School for our annual Fire Prevention presentation.

Students were taught about escape routes, meeting places, where not to hide, as well as stop, drop, and roll if your clothing catches fire. Firefighters also dressed in their full turnout gear so that students could see what they look like and to not be afraid if they encounter a firefighter in an emergency situation. The students were then given the opportunity to view the apparatus and equipment, took turns sitting in the apparatus. Activity books and helmets were distributed for each student.

Members also visited other institutions such as day care/preschools in town, such as Once Upon a Child, St. Luke’s, and Valley Day Care. Thank you to all of the schools’ staff and administrators, including the PVES leadership, in allowing us to educate our young students about these important issues.
