Wednesday, November 28th around 7:30pm, the Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported chimney fire on Cayuga Rd in the Abele Park community. Upon arrival, our 1st Assistant Chief notified the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services 911 Center to upgrade the call to a working fire assignment, as there was an active fire in the chimney (see photos) which had begun to spread and was threatening the surrounding walls and roof. Arriving firefighters deployed a dual attack with one crew working on the interior areas and another from the exterior. Due to a quick and coordinated response and great team work, the fire was extinguished in minutes and damage was held to a minimum. Thank you to Mohegan FD for providing their FAST Team and standing by at our HQs Canopus Hollow Rd to cover any calls that may have come in while we were still operating on the fire ground. |
