On Sunday, March 25th., members of the Putnam Valley Fire Department conducted a training drill on vehicle stabilization and entry using various tools, such as cutters, spreaders, window sheers and more. This training provides firefighters with the skills to secure and stabilize motor vehicles that are in a potentially dangerous position, usually resulting from an accident, so they will not move and cause further injury or damage. This provides essentially safety for both the crash victims and the responding rescuers. Before any aid can be given, the scene must be safe and vehicle stabilization is just one of the many techniques used to secure rescue scenes.
