PVVFD Month of March Storms

March has been a very busy time for the Putnam Valley Fire Department – it’s only the 12th and we have had over 60 calls covering several storm related issues such as wires down, transformer fires, emergency medical service assists, flooding pump outs, and trees down on houses, roads and wires throughout the town. The first of the two storms hit on the 2nd and went into the weekend with the Nor’easter. This storm was truly devastating causing great damages to both life and property, creating hazardous conditions to both homes and roadways. We barely began to recover when the second storm hit shortly after that on 3/7, dumping over a foot of snow, taking down more trees and wires, causing more power outages including taking down power to homes that just got restored from the first storm and creating even more havoc.

The members of the department spent countless hours responding to these calls and working on stand-by status to ensure there was manpower to respond without delay to the numerous calls that were received.

Thank you to all those who responded, worked the radio room, cooked meals through the day. It’s a team effort that allows this department to do all it does for the community. All members returned home safely after the storms passed and that is what’s most important.

Thank you again and stay safe.
