The Putnam Valley Fire Department hosted Fire Prevention Week Events at the Elementary School and local Day Care Centers. All the kids received packages with coloring books, crayons, Frisbees and fire hats.
On Sunday October 15th with complimentary food, raffles for smoke detectors and fire extinguishers and most importantly, information on what to do in case of a fire. It was well attended by the community, who were able to see how firefighters work an extraction using the "jaws of life” and other rescue equipment. There was also a "hands on" instruction on how to properly handle a fire extinguisher.
There was the "smoke house" demonstration. This was a very important demonstration as it showed how leaving a door or a window open during a fire, can make the fire spread quickly. So remember, close the door behind you when you leave. It was great to see the kids that attended this event - they were able to sit inside the fire trucks, see the many different types of tools that can be found on those trucks and also get to put on the same gear the firefighters wear. The Putnam Valley Volunteer Ambulance Corp was also there to support Fire Prevention Week by handing out pamphlets on how to handle various types of medical situations and taking free blood pressure readings. The kids enjoyed walking around inside the ambulance and getting strapped into the stretcher.
The Putnam Valley Fire Department would like "Thank" everyone who came out to support this event and we hope all enjoyed the day and leaned about Fire Prevention. |
