On Tuesday, May 15 Mr. David Walsh, Chairman for the Fire Science Program at Dutchess Community College conducted a formal presentation on Fire Behavior to the members of the Putnam Valley Vol. Fire Department.

Topics of instruction included the hazards of firefighting with modern construction and building materials, effects of oxygenation and pyrolysis, smoke behavior, ignition, acceleration and extinguishment factors.

After the lecture, Mr. Walsh and Putnam Valley Fire Lt. Thomas Fejes conducted a live demonstration clearly showing the effects of oxygenation and combustion in a mock structure fire.

PVVFD offers it gratitude to Mr. Walsh for all his time and efforts in this valuable training experience.
