On Sunday January 25th, PVVFD members participated in an Ice Rescue Drill on Lake Peekskill. A team of 4 members in cold water suites and attached to safety lines, cleared the snow and cut an opening in the ice using chainsaws. Those on the shore observed the drill and manned the safety lines for those on the ice. The drill demonstrated various ways to rescue an individual who had fallen through the ice into the cold water. Using the ice sled or putting a rescue tube around the individual and hosting them out of the water were practiced, as well as the rescuer getting out of the water on his own using ice handheld picks.

The drill was well attended and took approximately 2 hours to complete at the lake. Afterwards, the members returned to station 1 to set out the ropes to dry and clean up the dive trailer as needed.
