On 11/30/14, Putnam Valley Fire Officers trained several firefighters on Bail-Out skills at Station 2. These are the skills whereby a firefighter, if trapped by encroaching flames, will have to “bail out” through a higher level window if order to escape. Each member was required to demonstrate how to properly secure their jump line to a stationary object (i.e.: pipe, radiator, window sill etc), prepare their safety harnesses and perform several jumps, all while wearing their firefighter gear.

There was on Officer / Instructor at the bailout window ensuring the jumpers were properly attached to the safety line, one located on ground level and one maintaining the safety line. Each Instructor is on hand to observe each and every “jump” to ensure it is done correctly and safely. Each member was also instructed on how to repack their bailout bag for their next jump.

This bailout training is a annual requirement for firefighters. Further training scheduled to be completed by end of December.
